She is a severe paranoid schizophrenic) Other notables: Spencer Reid is the youngest member of the BAU at 26. He has an IQ of 187, an eidetic memory, and can read 20,000 words per minute.

Background

Reid is a genius who graduated from high school at age 12 and went to college at 13 where he earned three doctorates (Mathematics, Chemistry and Engineering) by the age of 21. In addition he holds BAs in Psychology and Sociology and is currently working on a BA in Philosophy. He rides the subway to work everyday. In his youth, his father left him and his mother, no longer able to deal with the paranoid schizophrenia of Reid's mother, Diana. Reid grew up learning nearly everything he knows from books, with his mother often reading to him. Still, Reid knew the way his mother was living wasn't healthy. When he was eighteen, he had his mother placed in a mental institution, Bennington Sanitarium. She is still there, and Reid sends letters every day but he is afraid to visit her. Reid is also worried about the fact that his mother's illness can be passed on genetically; he once told Morgan that "I know what it's like to be afraid of your own mind". He grew up in Las Vegas Reid has shot and killed 2 men while working for the BAU, and has been held hostage, and tortured. During one of his captures, he was drugged with heroin. Right now he’s battling with a drug addiction but he’s been clean for ten months. Random Facts about Spencer: Reid wears his watch over his shirt sleeve, regardless of whether it is a light shirt or a thick sweater. This is a typical gifted trait - gifteds are often oddly sensitive to things like clothing tags and jewelry against their skin. Reid read the book Empty Planet, by Ursula Kent when he was six. He remarks that it would take him ten minutes to reread. Reid has also proven himself to be a magician, a Star Trek nerd and a coffee (with plenty of sugar) addict. Reid is the statistical expert of the team. In "Ashes and Dust" Prentiss asked him if he had a percentage of arsonists that are caught. He had to admit he did, although he tried to be vague by saying "few" in an effort to be conversational. It didn't work. The topic of his dissertation in engineering was "Identifying Non-obvious relationship factors using cluster weighted modeling and geographic regression" Spencer Reid wears mismatched socks. Most everyone calls him Reid with the exception, of course, of his mother.

This journal is just for fun. I have no claim to Criminal Minds or the character Dr. Spencer Reid. Nor am I Matthew Gray Gubler. Spencer is a genius but I am not. I do a great deal of research for him in order to try and keep up with him but there will be mistakes. They’re mine alone. Spencer is friendly enough, a little socially awkward as geniuses often are but he likes friends and he’ll talk to most anyone.
