[Reid pokes at the communication device a moment, brow furrowed as he tries to figure it out. Finally the video flickers on and Reid is staring down at it. He's dressed in a button down shirt, tie and grandpa cardigan sweater. He's also leaning on a cane. He's nervous but managing to keep his cool. Reid is working at keeping his mind off the last time he was kidnapped. This isn't the same, he thinks to himself. He's not tied up. Maybe this isn't a kidnapping. Maybe...]

Uhm...I-I'm Dr. Spencer Reid with the FBI. I d-don't know who you are or where this is but someone will be coming for me. If you'd like to t-talk, you haven't done anything w-wrong yet. I'm not hurt. You need to talk to me n-now because holding a federal agent against his will is a crime.

Uhm...excuse me?

Yes. Serial killers generally follow a pattern and a profile. We use those patterns and profiles to catch them.

Approximately 1.08 times per week, the mansion will absorb a memory from someone within Wonderland and either alter its physical appearance, the appearance of those of us here, apply a mental alteration, or any combination of the above. We call this occurrence an 'event'. The effects are temporary, but the memory loss thus far is not. If this is correct, it is possible that our reason for being here is for our memories.

Nn. You are fortunate you didn't arrive a day earlier. An 'event' just ended.

You can locate them just from patterns and profiles?! [and Kite suddenly sounds very interested.] How does this work?

[The inclusion of a statistic makes Reid feel oddly better]

Wonderland...Lewis Carroll's Wonderland?

[He tucks his hair behind one ear and furrows his brow as his hand goes to his chin. He's slipping into thinking!Reid mode]

I guess memories would provide an energy of sort if they could be siphoned from...and something could feasibly...huh. I don't remember it working that way in the story.

[The worried, thoughtful expression smooths out to be replaced by a grin]

Everything a person does means something; body language, what they leave behind, what they take, what they do, how they perform an action. You take those clues and build a profile based on statistics, psychology and behavior. That will tell you, for example, that the killer is a white male about thirty, middle class, someone who's repressed in his career and his life. You start looking for people that match that description in the area.

I have seen the book... it is not the same, but there are similarities. For example, many of the characters are present, such as the Queen of Hearts and the Dormouse, but the Mansion itself does not seem to relate to the story.

Haaaaa... I also do not recall any memory loss or sentient reflections in the story.

[he pauses, taking some brief notes on the conversation at the back of his processor]

Hnn... What if I already know my target's identity, but not where he will strike next? What should I look for?

N-no but sentient, dark mirror images is an idea that goes back a long time.

[Reid considers that a moment]

You have to look at their habits, their history and their psychology as well as the victims they take. If they're ashamed, they're going to pick somewhere hidden from sight. If they're boastful and daring someone to find out, they're going to pick somewhere more public. If the crime is sentimental, it's going to be some place sentimental.

It is? I was unaware.

I see... perhaps I will have to invest more time in studying his behaviour. Haseo could be useful after all...

...Ah, well, if there is anything else you would like to ask, I would be happy to answer to the best of my ability. I have gathered plenty of data in my time here.

It goes back as far as the 17th century in literature.

Who's Haseo?

Th-thank you.

Ah. Haseo is... [a long pause. Haseo and Kite's relationship is anything but simple, if all the mistaken identity, attempts to kill eachother, and total lack of communication is any sign. And they're supposed to be fighting on the same side, even.]

.............

He is an acquaintance from my world.

And you are welcome.

[In that pause, Reid realizes the relationship between the two is a bit more complicated than that but he just nods]
